If some of your happiest memories as a child involved playing in the sandbox, I have good news for you. You can create your own personal desktop refuge by building a sand garden, based on the Japanese gardens of raked sand and stone referred to as karesansui (“dry landscape”). These have always been integral features in temples and shrines, serving as aids to meditation on the true meaning of life.
