SendtheTrend.com is a fashion startup that launched in 2010 and garnered 200,000 Facebook Likes in less than a year. The social following is so impressive that Entrepreneur magazine caught up with co-founder Divya Gugnani for tips.
Send the Trend offers its members a curated collection of accessories, from earrings, necklaces, purses to phone covers and tablet cases. The service encourages social sharing by rewarding members with credits when they share the products via Facebook, Twitter and email.
According to Gugnani, the site is successful because it provides an additional level of curation – compared to flash sale sites like Gilt Groupe and ideeli. The more members view and purchase, the more Send the Trend will be able to customize and show products that they like.
The brand successfully uses various social media platforms to entice and communicate with customers including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, and Tumblr. Isn’t this a great business model? What other fashion startups do you know that use social e-commerce at the core of their businesses?
